The number of students pursuing higher education in different countries around the world is increasing . This has been of a great interest to the parents, governments, stakeholders and educational institutions. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the findings of a survey performed among the parents of the students in the study. The survey was conducted to explore the parameters affecting the decision-making by the parents of the students attending higher education institutions in India. These institutions include educational institutions providing higher education, technical institutions providing technical education, government aided. and the central universities located in the capital cities of each state. The study found that parents have a certain level of understanding of the benefits of higher education and the concerns/aspects that they wish to be taken into consideration while making decisions about their children’s higher education choices. Among the related issues, parents were interested in the debt load they had to pay for their children’s higher education. They were also concerned about the quality of education imparted by the college, the job opportunities available upon graduation, and the cost of sending their children to college. The results of the study are discussed in detail and implications for higher education institutions and policy makers are highlighted. This chapter is meant to stimulate researchers to explore issues related to the objectives of this book. However, this chapter addresses only a few issues and there are many other issues on which more research is required.
