Bu Etkinlik Hakkında

We will talk about body politics, women's body and fashion with Gözde Karatekin on Thursday, February 28th at 19:00. Throughout history, the body appears as a public space where power exercises its maneuvers in daily life. The body, which the government has made public and shaped directly or indirectly through social norms, symbols and rituals, is also a means of expression of personality and identity. On the other hand, body politics discussions inevitably bring gender debates with them. Although the existence of the policies applied towards the human body is independent of gender, the form and means of domination applied to the male and female bodies differ. In this context, we can talk about many direct or symbolic interventions on the human body. In this conversation, we discuss the relationship of power with the body; their domination over the body, how the female body, which is seen as an object of pleasure, is shaped by the fashion and beauty industry; We will discuss how this formatting changes from culture to culture and over time. We will seek answers to the questions of what effects this social construction has on women's self-identities and how we can improve them with a collective consciousness.
