Musicians combine melodies, harmonies, and rhythms to create more dynamic compositions. Other artists juxtapose colors, textures, images, or materials to create a greater visual impact. The creative magic occurs when these choices evoke different interpretations and emotions.
Because people, too, have layers. Just as a collage is formed by layering various materials on top of each other, we layer experiences that shape our beliefs and reactions.
The cliché that "beauty is only in appearance" means that a pleasant appearance does not guarantee a virtuous character. We are a complex mix of competing emotions and personality traits. Therefore, how we behave towards the outside world does not always reflect our inner feelings. We converse politely, while sensitive conversations are necessary to forge meaningful connections.
