Bu Etkinlik Hakkında

From pharaoh mummies to blue jeans, the source of blue has never changed: Indigo.

Indigo, the only true blue dye in nature, is a herbal dye obtained from the leaves of plants of the genus Indigofera. With its 5000-year history, indigo was transported from one end of the world to the other by trade ships, decorated the clothes of everyone from the king to his slave, and always preserved its value with its unique blue among the destroyed and re-established civilizations.

Green-leaved indigo plants, which do not differ from any other plant with their appearance, contain a magical chemistry in their leaves. The indigo craftsmen, who have devoted their lives to this chemistry, still continue to practice their art in various parts of the world, although their numbers are decreasing.

In this workshop, we will prepare dyes with real indigo obtained from the Indigofera plant and we will dye cotton scarves to wave ourselves in the cool autumn winds of İzmir.

Özge Horasan, the coordinator of the workshop, has been making natural dyeing applications since 2013 and her brand is sat-su-ma.
